TONIO K. AND GADFLY: A HISTORICAL ACCOUNT In 1995, Gadfly began reissuing Tonio K.'s entire recorded oeuvre on CD. The first four full-length albums—Life in the Foodchain, Amerika, Romeo Unchained, and Notes from the Lost Civilization—appeared in quick succession.

These reissues are exactly as the originals, including all the original artwork. Notes is the 10-song "A&M version" (i.e., it includes the song "What Women Want," which was left off the Word Records version of the same album). 	In 1997, things got really interesting. Gadfly finally succeeded in bringing to light Tonio's long-awaited masterpiece, ¡Olé! Recorded in 1989 with the likes of Marc Ribot, Booker T., Bruce Thomas, Charlie Sexton, and David Miner, and produced by T Bone Burnett, these tracks were deep-sixed by A&M Records shortly thereafter. For years, they were kept in oaken barrels in a secret vault, aging like fine wine. Now at last, Tonio fans could sample a long-anticipated slice of recorded history.
	Not one to rest on his laurels, Gadfly's Mitch Cantor got busy again, and dug around the vaults for some more Tonio material. The result was 1998's Rodent Weekend '76–'96 (Approximately), a collection of outtakes and rare recordings, mostly from the 1970s, that showcase Mr. K at his scathingly funny, angry, Dadaist, pseudo-misogynist best.
	The next addition to Gadfly's Tonio K. collection was Yugoslavia—a collection of all-new tracks, released in 1999. Tonio K. co-wrote these songs with various collaborators over the course of the past 10 years, and finally condescended to share them with us. Highlights include "Sixteen Tons of Monkeys," "Indians and Aliens," and "Student Interview (with the Third Richest Man in the World)."
	2001. The dawn of a new millennium. In the distance, we hear— is that Richard Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra"? No, it's Tonio K., recorded live in Austin in 1992, with 16 Tons of Monkeys! The newest star in the Tonio K. constellation appeared in September 2001.

	The only remaining out-of-print Tonio K. item is the 5-song EP La Bomba. The story here is that Capitol Records has refused to license the songs to Gadfly. If this ever changes, I'll let you know. Several alternate takes of the songs from that recording appear on Rodent Weekend.
